About Me

Why Do I ?

When I was small, my favorite time of day was when I was allowed to draw and paint. As I got older, this love never faded and eventually I had no choice but to pursue my passion.

This pursuit has led me to paint all over the world.

My initial, representational style was apparent in early oil and watercolor paintings, most of which have gone to live in various collections in the US. living in Rhode Island, I had the benefit of the famous Rhode Island School of Design just up the road. Early on I attended classes in the schools continuing education department, while raising my two active sons.

However, a thirst to learn and  experience more led to Plein Aire painting with noted impressionist painter, Joseph Szarek. Joe studied under American Master Impressionist, Henry Hensche. From Joe I learned to see color and how to describe the subtleties when affected by light, space and atmosphere, a disciplined study.  I am grateful for the awareness he imparted to me that continues to be present in my work today.

In 1989 I opened, with the help of Joe and other artist friends, The Artists Gallery of Wickford Ltd. in the New England sea coast village of Wickford, RI. For a decade the gallery represented known area artists as well as my own work. It is through the gallery that my work became collected by clients in Thailand, Japan, Europe, Australia and throughout the US.

During that period I travel extensively, painting as I went. My Giclee prints and jewelry designs were featured on HSN Home Shopping Network. In addition, I had a one person international exhibition at the Shangrila Hotel in Bangkok Thailand. It was featured in the Society Column of the International Bangkok Post for a week!

In the past decade, I have blended my previous style with my impressionist knowledge always circling back to my desire to describe detail.

But again, the desire to expand my scope has me venturing into another realm of artistic expression. As I become increasingly attracted to texture, I now incorporate it into my fine art images. I call it Paillage.

Paillage is, of course, mixed media but with a twist.  I start with a painting then add texture. Many of my Paillage images are executed in acrylic.  I then incorporate materials such as hand made papers, fabric, tree bark, beeswax, pumice and more. The completed work is then varnished with a UV protective finish. The result is a uniquely intriguing, image of depth, color and soul.

Today I am as passionate as ever about my work.

I hope you enjoy viewing and perhaps owning a piece for your home.

I do love the challenge of commissioned work.
